The heavy rainfall that has happened in the Western Sulawesi region in the past three days has caused a major flood problem in this region that closed down the access of land transportation for agricultural commodities from the region. So far, the flood has hampered at least seven regencies in this province and the transportation of corn kernel as the biggest agricultural commodities from this province has been temporarily shut down, hence causing a shortage of supply to corn starch production plants in Central Sulawesi that relies heavily on the supply of corn kernel from Western Sulawesi. This local logistical problem is expected to last at least until mid-week, as the rain is expected to continue on medium to high intensity for the next couple of days.
