Due to the high and reliable supply of salt in Kupang regency in the East Nusa Tenggara province, the price salt in this province is significantly lower than that of the rest of Indonesia. The price of salt in this province is currently reported at IDR 4000/Kg, in comparison to other provinces where salt is currently sold at the average price of IDR 7000/Kg at the retailer level. Aside from the regular consumer, the low price of salt in this province has also attracted the manufacturer of food and agricultural commodities from the neighboring province to source the salt in food preserving, and the price can even go as low as IDR 3000/Kg when ordered in bulk on the farmgate level.
