The pig farming scenario in Brazil

According to data from the Municipal Livestock Survey (PPM 2019), there was a 1.6% drop in the number of pigs in Brazil. The fall was complemented by an increase for the third consecutive year in the number of sows, reaching 4.8 million heads. The Southern region of Brazil has the highest pig herd. The region has approximately 20 million heads which accounts for 49.5% of the national herd. The Northeast region was the only one that registered an increase in its herd last year, reaching about 5.9 million head. The State of Santa Catarina is ranked first in the pig breeding, with 7.6 million pigs in its herd.
