Sweden's largest tomato farm in Dalköpinge outside Trelleborg is being hit hard by the increase in electricity prices. The energy-intensive operation has seen its electricity bill double compared to before. The tomato farm outside Trelleborg produces around 8,000 MT of tomatoes a year. It accounts for 60% of locally grown tomatoes in Sweden and is one of the few Swedish farms that harvest during the winter months. Meanwhile, the prices for Swedish tomatoes will rise by 15-20% because of the higher costs. This could allow EU tomatoes to take some large market share in Q1 2022.
