There are around 7 regencies in the Souther Sulawesi region that have been chosen as the plantation sites for the production of all-organic rice in Indonesia. The newly opened plantation lands across this region will cover a total area of 700 hectares. This initiative was formed on a partnership program between the Ministry of Agriculture with the government of Canada through its Global Affairs Canada Agency (GACA) who would be providing the farmers with the necessary education on how to grow fully-organic crops. Aside from turning this region into a major producing-place for organic rice to contribute directly to the national production output, this development is also expected to open up new business opportunities for the smallholder farmers and farming community in the area. The early stage of production is projected to take place as early as October 2020.
