The local variety of salak fruit from Sangata regency in Eastern Borneo province has now gained traction from the national buyers. Compared to other local varieties the sangata salak fruit contains more water and has an even sweeter taste. Moreover, the plantation lands that are available for the production of this variety has now reached 275 hectares, with the production output at around 10 MT/hectare, making it easily available during low and high season. Aside from other provinces in Borneo, this variety can now also be found in adjacent provinces such as West Java and Central Java, following the opening of distribution channels between the island of Java and Borneo. Currently, this fruit is sold at IDR 5000/Kg at the retailers level in Borneo whereas the retail price in Java is at IDR 7000/Kg.
