Leading up to the Islamic and long weekend holiday in Indonesia, the price of chili pepper and red onion in some of the largest traditional markets across Indonesia is currently on the rise. The price of red onion is up to IDR 30.000/Kg from its highest average price last week at IDR 25.000/Kg, while the price of chili pepper has been reported at IDR 40.000/Kg which is a steep increase from last week at IDR 30.000. The rise of the price of these two commodities has primarily been driven by the high demand from the consumers, as these two are the two most used seasonings for various cuisines during the Islamic holiday. The price is expected to go up even higher especially during the red date on Thursday and during the weekend.
