Cameroon, of which the name originates from the Portuguese expression 'Rio dos Camaroes,' meaning shrimp river, exports around 500 MT of shrimp annually to Asia. From January to October 2021, Malaysia alone has sourced 102 MT of this seafood from Cameroon. With the recent launch of the 'FISH4ACP' program by the FAO and the government, the country intends to support these industry stakeholders and significantly increase its production capacities. Shortly, shrimp will be more available in the Asian market and the European one.
