The South West of France, which produces 80% of French plums, experienced weather conditions, including heatwaves, which decimated 2022 production and resulted in a low yield. South West cooperatives are now buying large volumes of plums from the Eastern part of France where the weather conditions were better and yield was higher.

This increased demand resulted in the highest prices ever for French plums with prices continuing to increase in W39. Generally, prices for size 45+ (AA) range between USD 0.65-1.20/kg depending on the year, with the price reaching the upper threshold only twice in the last 15 years. In W39 plum prices reached a record high of USD 1.53/kg for size 45+ (AA).
