The California Almond Industry shipped over 204Mlb in November 2022, with a decrease of 7.5% compared to 2021, and the smallest since November 2016/17. Export shipments were down 8.5% YoY, while domestic shipments decreased by 5.2% during the same time. Through the first four months of the crop year, net shipments are down 4.3% YoY. In November, newly contracted commitments were also lower, with the industry adding over 200M lbs, representing a decrease of 11.2% compared to 2021 and 17.6% less compared to October. The total committed inventory is currently 8.22% below last year's levels. Crop receipts stand at 2.15B lbs, a decrease of 7% compared to 2021. If receipts continue at this pace, total crop receipts for the year will total 2.72B lbs. It is forecasted that the rest of the crop receipts will be lighter than last year, suppressing the 2.72B lbs figure. Although, a receipt number in November does reduce the risk of an overly short crop, a sudden shift in the pace of crop receipts could occur in the future.
