The Turkish olive industry, which has increased its olive tree assets from 90 million to 190 million, wants to transform production into value-added with exports and earn USD 1 billion in foreign currency to Turkey. The 80% decrease in the support given to the export of packaged products in the export of table olives and olive oil negatively affects the competitiveness of Turkish exporters.
Turkey's olive oil exports were USD 2 thousand 430 per MT in the 2019/20 season. It increased to USD 3,065, increasing 22% in the 2020/21 season. The increase continued, and the average export price of olive oil advanced to USD 3,165, and we are now in a position to export olive oil 30% more valuable on a foreign exchange basis.
In the Communiqué on the Export of Certain Agricultural Products, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry was authorized to make periodic adjustments in exporting specified products when necessary. These products include olives and olive oil. As a result of the meetings with our Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir PAKDEMİRLİ and other ministry officials, it was confirmed that there is no restriction on the export of the determined products for the moment and that before such a thing comes into question, they will go together with the sector stakeholders and act within the framework of common sense.
