Most fishermen or fish producer in West Sumatra province has begun shifting the usage of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Floating Net Cages (FNC) in the catching of offshore grouper and yellowfin tuna. Previously most FNCs are made from bamboo that is less durable and sometimes has a negative environmental impact as the remains would sometimes be gathered in the seabed, hence disrupting various sea creatures on the seabed. Although the procurement of this device is more expensive than the one made from bamboo, it is expected that by the end of 2020 all producers in this province would start using HDPE FNC, in order to present a more environmentally method in their production process.
