Japan started importing full-scale Taiwanese pineapples for this season in March 2023. The import volume in March 2022 was 5,165MT, but this year's record as of March 26, 2023 is about 5.7K MT, already exceeding the volume of the same period in 2022. Between March 1 and March 26, 2023, Taiwan exported 6,359 MT of pineapples, with Japan receiving roughly 90% of that total. According to the wholesale market, the quality of this 2023's products seems to be better than in previous years. Until 2022, some products had a condition called "Shin-guro" in Japanese, in which darkening occurred around the core as the transportation took 14 days due to COVID-19. In 2023, the quality of the products was good due to shortened transportation times. This season is likely to record the highest import volume ever.
