In 2022, the harvest of green peas is being severely affected by uncommon weather patterns. The unusually cold temperatures in the early spring have delayed the sowing and convinced some growers to opt for other crops. This cause itself has brought to a decrease of the total production of green peas. On top of that, the swift and unexpected increase in temperature in the last weeks has created a scenario in which plants are blooming earlier than expected and growers are encountering difficulties to harvest the product. The result is that some of the crop is left unharvested on the plant and spoils directly in the field. It is important to notice that this specific crop with high temperatures, dries up very quickly. Moreover, the quality of the peas ends up insipid. All the above mentioned cause are the direct consequence of a reduction of available product that is estimated to be around 30%. It is forecasted that this reduction of the available products will bring about an increase in the cost of green peas for this season.
