Tomato production in South Africa is facing challenges

South Africa experienced a price increase in tomatoes. Tomato prices have increased by 122% in comparison to January 2021. Heavy rains in the production region have resulted in lower supply volumes as plants are affected by mold and pests due to excessive moisture. In turn, as supply volumes have decreased by 40%, prices are driving upwards. January tomato prices reached USD 0.90 per Kg.
