The almond farm in Spain was hit by the frost at the beginning of April 2022. The estimated damages of raw almonds are between 10%-50%. As a result, the price has increased. There was also considerable damage in the northern part of the Californian almond farm hit by the frost in March 2022. However, since there was relatively little damage in other production areas the impact on the harvest for 2022 should be limited.
Meanwhile, a few offers are circulating at the moment for the upcoming harvest, or only with a premium. The trader predicts a Californian harvest of 2.9B/lbs, with an average yield of approximately 2,100lbs/ac for 1,380,000 cultivated acres. Although lower than the average of the past 10 years, some consider these predictions to be far too “optimistic” for a year marked by frost and drought. In addition to the trader's forecasts, Terra Nova's report on production estimates for almonds will be published on 12 May, which may have a high level of anticipation.
