From 2014 when the food embargo began, Russia did not have the opportunity to import breeding land snails - grape and sulfur - from the countries that were subject to the embargo. Earlier, the Ministry of Agriculture proposed to exclude breeding snails from the embargo due to the need to import breeding products of snails from the countries of the European Union.

From the 1st of March, the ban on the import will not apply to “breeding grape snails (Helix pomatia) and breeding garden snails (Helix aspersa)”.
Their import is allowed with a permit for the import of breeding products issued by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.
