Turkey produces over 100 K MT of rainbow trout both in open sea waters and territorial sea waters. Some of the trouts are produced in a larger size (over 1 kg per fish). They are colored by adding carotene in the fish feed, which gives the pink-red color to the fish and enables the trout fish to be marketed as a substitution for the Norwegian or Atlantic salmon. In Turkey, the pink rainbow trout is known and promoted as the Black Sea Salmon.
