Turkey’s Chickpea Production Is Expected to Increase 22% YoY to 580,000MT

The Turkish Statistical Institute estimates chickpea production in 2022 to reach 580,000MT, which is an increase of 22.1% compared to the 475,000MT produced in 2021. The 2022 yield is above the 5-year Turkish average which is calculated at 567,000MT with an average yield of 1.16MT/ha. Most of the production is concentrated in Central Anatolia around the cities of Ankara, Yozgat, Kırşehir, Konya, Karaman and Çorum. In 2021 Turkey exported 14% of its chickpeas to Iran followed by Pakistan and Syria with 8% each and Iraq with 6%.
