Two new varieties to be released by the Guatemala government

The Guatemalan Ministry of Agriculture, through the Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology (ICTA), will introduce the ICTA Loman red potato variety and the ICTA Palestina variety. The first one is a variety resistant to a type of worm that affects the yield of potato crops. The other type of variety is ideal for the preparation of French fries, known in the industry as canes. It is estimated that the new variety will allow a yield of 35 to 40 quintals, while a normal potato production is 20 to 25 quintals.
