British retail and wholesale buyers report that egg prices are starting to increase across production methods. Egg farmers claim to be affected by avian influenza, coupled with increased input costs and labour shortages, which is leading to a decrease in production, hence the price increases. Egg production fell 2.67% in Q3 2022. Egg production is below average compared to the previous 5 years. The average UK farm-gate egg price in Q2 2022 was USD 1.08 per dozen (£0.95), which is a 6.9% increase YoY and a 6.1% increase compared to Q1 2022.
