In 2023, Uruguay suffered from droughts caused by La Niña, affecting apple production and exports to Brazil. Droughts caused fruits to fall from trees and not mature to the correct color, size, and quality, and most of the production was used for processing. According to buyers from the Ceagesp market, droughts were expected, but during 2023 it's more severe than usual. Brazil imported 88MT of apples in March 2023, a decrease of 90% YoY compared to 810MT in March 2022.
