In recent weeks, specific operations of Argentine roast beef exports to Uruguay were carried out, which added to the growing purchases of Brazilian and Paraguayan beef cuts that Uruguay has been doing in recent years, to avoid that the internal prices of that food skyrocket.
In the first seven months of 2020, Uruguayan beef imports totaled 19,102 tons, a figure that, at the current rate, will surely exceed the almost 31,000 tons purchased during 2019.
After the Chinese commercial default and the disasters caused by the pandemic in the first four months of 2020, Uruguayan bovine meat exports began to be regularized in May with a marked change in the commercial matrix, given that shipments of higher added value were privileged towards the US, Canada and the European Union to the detriment of China.
