In May-24, the US saw a 7% year-on-year (YoY) decline in imports of fresh tilapia fillets, totaling 1,654 metric tons (mt) valued at USD 16.1 million. Frozen tilapia imports also fell, down 22% YoY from the previous year and 19% since the start of 2024, reaching 6,598 mt worth USD 30.9 million. The decrease in imports from Latin American countries is attributed to production issues caused by an epidemic and an import warning issued by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Costa Rica.
