Heavy rainfall across parts of South Australia and some areas of Western Victoria has set growers up with a great start to the winter planting season. However, the work now begins to prepare paddocks ahead of planting. Some large falls across South Australia, some areas, received 50-200mm over the past week.

Wheat markets continued to hold strong at the start of this week, firming by USD 2.14 - 3.57 per MT. Short-term buyers' demand for protein wheat delivered into Melbourne with a tight delivery period showed a substantial premium if the grain is delivered in time. Barley prices remain strong and have firmed in Victoria as buyer demand starts to pick up for the Feb-March shipment.
