Vietnam aims to reach USD 7 billion in fruit and vegetable exports by the end of 2024, driven by strong growth and expanded market access. From Jan-24 to Aug-24, export turnover hit USD 4.63 billion, reflecting a 30% year-on-year (YoY) increase. This growth is due to an agreement with Chinese customs authorities, allowing Vietnam to export products like frozen durians and fresh coconuts. While China remains a primary market, particularly for bananas and mangoes, Vietnam diversifies into other regions, including the United States (US), South Korea, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries. Notably, Vietnam recently gained approval to export fresh pomelos to South Korea. Despite the strong outlook, pesticide residues and contamination must be addressed to improve product quality. The processed fruit and vegetable industry contributes significantly, with an expected revenue of USD 1.4 billion, helping manage seasonal surpluses during peak harvests.
