The Vietnam Food Association (VFA) has highlighted that amid an uncertain food security situation, where India and Russia have imposed stricter export controls, Vietnam has emerged as a leading exporter with ample high-quality rice output. This has played a crucial role in stabilizing income and profits for farmers. In 2024, rice exports are expected to remain favorable, given the global market's shortage of 5 million tons of rice, and India is likely to sustain export restrictions. Countries like Indonesia and the Philippines also plan to increase rice imports from Vietnam. With these positive indicators, VFA anticipates that the rice export target for 2024 could reach USD 5.3 billion, marking a nearly 13% YoY increase.
