Weekly Ethiopian Coffee Prices Have Dropped Since W43, Putting Coffee Exporters at Risk

Any coffee sales agreement in Ethiopia that is below the weekly government-set minimum price will not be accepted by the National Bank of Ethiopia and thus will not be favoured by exporters either. The weekly floor prices of all varieties of Ethiopian coffee have decreased by 1–4% from W43 to W46. This followed the drop in the New York price and the composite prices set by the International Coffee Organisation. As a result, exporters who purchased coffee at a higher price from farmers, local suppliers, and the commodity exchange market will be negatively affected and forced to sell at a loss.
