Why the Portuguese Kiwifruit couldn't successfully conquer the Northern European Markets so far

The Portuguese Kiwifruit barely sells in countries like Norway, Sweden, and Finland. And usually, when found in the retail markets, they always have the Bioproduction assurance, which is highly valued and therefore with high demand in these countries.

From the producer's point of view, this fact has only one single reason: It´s a matter of price. The strong competition with the nearest players such as Italy and Greece makes the Portuguese fruit penetration in those markets almost impossible. The transportation cost from the neighboring countries is necessarily cheaper. Additionally, Greece has lower production costs, mainly due to the cheaper hour-man paid during the harvesting. All factors summed turn into a necessarily higher offer price from the Portuguese producers.
