Since many cocoa planters have stopped growing cocoa because there are no more subsidies since 2018, this has caused cocoa production to decrease in Malaysia. To boost production, smallholder cocoa farmers are given back subsidy assistance for new crops that have the potential to be developed as well as assistance to those who want to expand their farms or replace farms that are no longer economical to maintain. This subsidy is expected to increase the country's cocoa production in 2021.
