Which regions are the most grown in of the sesame seed within the major countries?

In Myanmar, the main producing regions of sesame seed are the Mandalay division, Magway division and Sagaing division. In India, the main producing regions of sesame seed are Gujarat, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh. In Tanzania, the main producing regions of sesame seed are Mtwara and Lindi.

  • Mandalay Division, Magway Division, and Sagaing Division are in the central dry zone, where 90% of the country's sesame is produced (JAICAF, 2018).
  • Good quality black sesame is grown in the Magway region (JAICAF, 2018).

India 

Approximately 85% of the production of sesame comes from Gujarat (22.3%), West Bengal (19.2%), Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh.

Tanzania

Sesame is one of the main export-oriented oilseed crops from Mtwara and Lindi, currently the leading producers in Tanzania. The regions account for 35% of the total sesame seeds export in Tanzania.
