Meat vendors at Balanga City public market in the Philippines have stopped selling pork and chicken due to an inability to meet the government-set price ceiling. The vendors are finding it impossible to cover costs such as rental and permits, and are unable to sell at the required prices of PHP160 per kilo for chicken and PHP270 per kilo for pork. The vendors will resume selling meat if they are allowed to sell at higher prices. The vendors have appealed for government assistance and are seeking dialogue with the mayor.
