Spain has detected two positive cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) in wild boars found dead in Bellaterra (Barcelona), as reported by the Generalitat de Catalunya to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA). These positives, confirmed by the Central Veterinary Laboratory of Algete (Madrid), represent the first detection of this disease in the country since November 1994. Official veterinary services were informed of the discovery of two wild boar carcasses approximately one kilometer apart, in the vicinity of the campus of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, where they were found on November 26. Following confirmation, the practical manual of operations for combating ASF has been activated, which includes the delimitation of the infected area and the active search and elimination under official control of wild boar carcasses.
