The European Union's meat production saw a sharp decline in 2022, with a total decrease of 1.7 million tonnes, a 4.0% drop to 41.25 million tons, according to Eurostat. This decrease was observed across all types of meat, including beef, pigs, poultry, and sheep. The most significant decrease was in pork production, falling by 5.7%, to 22.1 million tonnes, its lowest level since 2014. Poultry meat production also saw a decrease of 1.7%, to 12.13 million tons. Beef production also experienced a 2.4% decrease, with only four out of the 27 Member States reporting an increase. Sheep meat production experienced the least decrease, falling by 0.9%, to 422 thousand tons.
