Tridge summary

Based on market feedback, UCN's latest assessment shows that the average price for FCA Oslo head-on gutted (HOG) 4-5kg salmon is NOK 86.5/kg, an increase of NOK 7.5/kg from the previous week; the price for 6-7kg salmon is NOK 87.0/kg, with a rise of NOK 9.5/kg.

A Norwegian exporter stated that the 49th week's price ranged between NOK 83-92/kg, with an incredible rise, and the market lacks 3-5kg salmon. Additionally, the supply of larger salmon remains ample, with not much of a premium, and these larger fish are typically sold to the Asian market.

Exporters predict that prices will continue to rise, with a significant increase expected between Christmas and the first week of the new year, with high prices expected to last until the second week of 2026, and prices starting to decline in the third and fourth weeks. Currently, prices for the first quarter of next year are expected to be close to NOK 100/kg, with futures prices roughly in the range of NOK 95-110/kg.

In the U.S. wholesale market, the price of Norwegian Trim-D fillets remained unchanged in the 48th week compared to the previous week, and there are currently no signs of a Christmas price increase. At this stage, Norwegian exporters are more inclined to focus on the Chinese market, while the U.S. market sees reduced profits due to tariff issues.

On the other hand, the market for Chilean salmon in the U.S. continues to decline, with the price of Trim-D Chilean fillets falling by $0.05/lb in the 48th week, and importers' inventories have increased. In the coming period, U.S. businesses will accelerate the pace of inventory reduction.

Aquabench data shows that as of the end of October, the biomass of Chilean Atlantic salmon farms was approximately 461,400 tons (live fish equivalent), an increase of 18.5% year-on-year, with both the number of salmon and the average weight increasing. In October, Chile harvested 85,200 tons of salmon (whole fish equivalent), a year-on-year increase of 20.3%.

In the 49th week, Scottish salmon prices remained unchanged from the previous week, with 5-6kg salmon priced at £7.20/kg and 6-7kg salmon at £7.40/kg.
