Irregular rainfall affects corn crops in Rio Grande do Sul

According to the Economic Bulletin released by Emater/RS-Ascar this Thursday (30), the sowing of corn in Rio Grande do Sul reaches 80% of the area projected for this season. Approximately 5% of the crops are in the vegetative development phase and another 5% have started flowering. The agency assessed that the establishment of the crops is satisfactory, although the progress of planting and initial growth vary according to the distribution of rainfall, soil moisture, and temperature fluctuations. In most of the state, the crops present good vegetative vigor and intense green coloration in areas without water restriction. According to Emater/RS-Ascar, this scenario has favored the execution of cultural practices, with emphasis on nitrogen topdressing, weed control, and preventive phytosanitary management.
