The National Commission for Development and Life without Drugs (Devida) and the District Municipality of Pebas (Loreto) signed a cooperation agreement to execute the project "Improvement of the value chain of cocoa cultivation in six communities of the Ampiyacu River," with the aim of strengthening the production and commercialization of this crop in the border area of Peru. The project will be developed in the communities of Estirón del Cusco, Nueva Esperanza, Huitoto de Pucaurquillo, Bora de Pucaurquillo, Santa Lucía de Pro, and San José de Pirí, which represent the indigenous peoples ocaina, yagua, bora, and huitoto. This joint work will consolidate 490 hectares of cocoa cultivation and improve the income of an equal number of families that today find in this activity a sustainable economic alternative free from illicit economies.
