In 2020, Norwegian herring export volume decreased by 11% year-on-year to 316,000 tons, but export value increased by 18% to 3.8 billion Norwegian kroner. Germany and Poland were the main export regions. Due to the outbreak, Germany's demand for canned herring soared, leading to a shift in Norway's export strategy towards higher value products like herring fillets and processed products. Additionally, Norwegian herring roe exports saw a 53% increase in volume and a 73% increase in export prices.
