New Delhi: India's farm sector is expected to expand 4% in 2025-26, compared to 3.5% in the previous fiscal owing to the growth in fisheries and livestock, NITI Aayog member Ramesh Chand said on Monday. Sustaining higher farm growth is essential for India's broader economic ambition, he said at Agri Business Summit 2025, adding, "If India wants to be Viksit Bharat, its farm growth should be 5%." If the country grows at 5%, it can achieve the ambition of Viksit Bharat, or transforming into a developed economy, by 2042, according to Chand, but if it keeps growing at 4.6%, then the target would be achieved only by 2047-48. Agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, speaking at the summit, stressed on the need for balanced fertiliser use to prevent soil degradation and protect the prosperity of future generations. He also emphasised the importance of developing integrated farming methods for farmers with small landholdings. #sr_widget.onDemand p, #stock_pro.onDemand ...
