The Spanish pork sector is facing a period of uncertainty for its lucrative export business with the emergence, after more than three decades, of African swine fever; a fact that, for the moment, has already blocked more than a hundred export certificates to about 40 countries. Veterinary services have confirmed the appearance of two outbreaks of ASF in two dead wild boars in the Barcelona municipality of Cerdanyola del Vallès and, following this, a contingency protocol is activated with the search for possible dead animals and the collection of capture traps and disinfection material to secure the perimeter and prevent the exit of wild boars from the surveillance zone.
