"The modernization of the irrigation infrastructure is a key factor for the development and competitiveness of Bulgarian agriculture," Deputy Minister of Agriculture Ivan Kapitanov said during the national conference "Water and Security – National Solutions for Critical Challenges with European Support," which took place in Sofia. Problems related to irrigation, drought, and flooding face agricultural producers daily and require consistent state policy, investments, and modernization. According to him, the completion of projects for the rehabilitation of hydro-melioration infrastructure by 2025 is already yielding visible results – reduced water losses and more areas included in irrigation systems, BTA reported. Kapitanov announced that the ministry has opened a new intake under the strategic plan for the modernization of irrigation networks, with the agreement of these projects and the start of 35 projects worth a total of 115 million euros scheduled for next year.
