Across much of the country, December began with overcast, humid, mild weather, but a significant change is expected in the coming weeks. Meteorological models unanimously indicate that a strong cooling will hit Hungary around December 20. Based on current data, there is a real chance of a white Christmas this year. Not only in the mountainous regions, but also in several lowland and Transdanubian districts. In the first days of December, the weather was characterized by weak air movement, persistent fog, and low-level cloud cover. Morning temperatures ranged between 2-4 °C, but weak frost also occurred in several places. Maximum temperatures depended significantly on the duration of the fog: in sunnier areas, 8-10 °C was measured, while in persistently foggy regions, 4-5 °C was recorded. According to the currently available data, a marked cold front is expected to arrive in our country around December 20.
