REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Zulkifli Hasan announced the government's plan to build 20,000 hectares of fish ponds on Java Island next year. According to him, the expansion of cultivation areas is a strategic step towards achieving protein self-sufficiency as mandated by President Prabowo Subianto. He explained that carbohydrate-based food production has already been addressed this year, but the need for protein requires new breakthroughs. The construction of fish ponds in Java will be accompanied by the development of fisheries centers to strengthen the national fish supply. "We will build 20,000 hectares of fish ponds on Java," said Zulhas, as he is affectionately known, during the Big Conference in Jakarta on Monday (12/8/2025).
