Description
The average production yield for the fruit is 500,000 tonnes and the main harvest season is between the months of April and October. Avocado trees are partially self-pollinating and are often propagated through grafting to maintain predictable fruit quality and quantity. The fruit trees are native to the humid, sub-tropical and tropical regions. The subtropical species needs a climate without frost and with little wind. High winds reduce the humidity, dehydrate the flowers, and affect pollination. They are usually harvested by hand and start to ripen once they are picked from the tree. After harvesting, once avocados are transported from the field to the factory where they are graded and sorted.
