Cairo Farms is a veteran grower (and exporter) of fresh produce, in the business for over 20 years and has also been labeled as Egypt's number one exporter. Recently the company is reinventing itself with new products and varieties, developing innovative production methods such as eco-friendly seaweed fertilizer while continuing to expand its markets. While the company already has an established clientele that includes multinational retail corporation Carrefour and retailers in Italy and Russia, they are looking to step into new markets and construct quick and direct shipping routes for quality-sensitive markets such as Europe.

The company uses an extensive network of storage facilities and refrigerated space to keep the produce in good quality. The onion is cleaned before it is filled into in mesh bags or gets vacuum packed and later on shipped to its destinations.
The process from harvest to shipment takes between 7 to 14 days depending on the export volume and the specific needs of each country.
Cairo Farms' main way of shipment is FOB sea freight and thus is in close proximity to three major harbors; Alexandria Port, Port Said, and Port Sokhna, all of which are within an hour’s drive.

The company takes extra care to ensure all their products meet their strict criteria of having optimal weight and quality. In order to maintain export quality standards, the company regularly acquires an export certificate issued by the State Agency in which they have to submit a sample that gets tested for pesticide levels as well as the amount of inorganic material.

The key harvest season for the red onion is from April to October with the highest yield being in April-July. The plantation is in the suburbs of Cairo (approx 30-40km outside of the city) with an ideal winter temperature of 10-15 degrees and well-drained soils, perfect for growing the Red Onion variety. The company exports a considerably large annual volume of 100K MT. Each onion is harvested by hand and washed/sorted by state of the art machines.

The company offers Egyptian Red Onions, known for their purplish-red skin and white flesh tinged in red. Red onions are favoured by consumers because they are high in flavour, possessing a mild to sweet taste, and due to their favourable size. with most of them being medium to large in size. The company offers conventionally produced onions that are rated Class 1 in quality and are suitable for human consumption. Samples are available upon request.
