Description
Common bean is grown across the country in the agro-ecologies categorized according to the altitude as high, medium and low. Miombo Agri-Business sources common beans cultivated in the Malawi region. The crop thrives in a well-drained soil which is rich in organic matter, weed-free and has an optimum PH of 6.5-7.5. Growth is poor in waterlogged soils. A well-distributed annual rainfall of between 800-2000mm is suitable for the rain-fed production. Irrigation should be done if rainfall is inadequate. Excessive rainfall during flowering causes flower abortion and increased disease incidences. Dry weather conditions are needed during harvesting of the common bean crop. Intercropping methods which involve planting the beans along with other crops it helps in maintaining the agro-ecosystem without air, soil and water pollution
