Description
Stone Trade owns a production area in Kano, Nigeria, where an artisanal farming model is practiced. Following the rainy season, the area experiences hot and dry conditions that are suitable for drying the hibiscus. Harvesting occurs from November to July, producing an annual average yield of 20 000MT. Harvesting occurs once the flowers are fully blooming by handpicking them. The healthy flowers are then selected, dressed by removing the stamens, and then manual and machine labor is used to clean them in order to remove impurities and foreign products. The flowers are then dried until they reach the required moisture content. This process can take a few days depending on the intensity of heat applied.
