The best conditions to grow mustard seed include neutral soil and a full sun or light partial shade position. Avoid waterlogged soils, and add lots of well-rotted organic matter if the soil is sandy.

Mustard will grow in just about any soil without any problems. It prefers neutral soil but slightly acidic or alkaline soil is unlikely to give it problems. Waterlogged soils should be avoided and if the soil is sandy, lots of well-rotted organic matter should be added. Although it's a cool-weather crop, it does prefer a full sun or light partial shade position.
