[Asia]

- Thailand

  • In general, the harvest season of orange in Thailand is December to February.
  • However, Thai farmers have a unique technique to make oranges bloom in the off-harvest season. Therefore oranges in Thailand can be harvested all year round.
  • Oranges in the North bloom between April-May which is after the blooming period of Central Thailand. This causes the harvest seasons of the orange in the North to be later than the Central, which is in Jan-Feb. This period is the time when the oranges from the Central are almost sold out in the market.
  • Off-season oranges: Farmers have to stop watering the oranges 10 months before the preferred harvest period.

 - Myanmar (Burma)

  • The growing season of oranges is best during pre-summer (January and February).
  • Myanmar oranges are harvested and available in the market for three months (i.e., 15th of November to 15th of February) (Oo, 2013).

  • The orange tree itself is evergreen, so it grows year-round. But each variety of orange has a different way and time for development. Once oranges are ready to harvest, oranges must be harvested. Longer isn't better. Most of the oranges blossom at the same but have different harvest times.
  • Blood oranges bloom in March, and the harvest is from fall through the spring.
  • Navel oranges tend to bloom from March through April, and it takes around 12 months to harvest.
  • Valencia oranges take around 12-15 months to be ready for harvest, and even before harvesting, the next round of oranges is already blooming.
  • Pineapple oranges are harvested from December to March.
  • Hamlin oranges are harvested from January to March.

- Egypt

  • Baladi: November to February
