Avocados in Mexico are mainly produced in Michoacan, Jalisco, and Nayarit regions. More than three-quarters of Mexico’s avocado production occurs in the state of Michoacán. More than 80% of the world's avocado production is in the hands of 11 countries; Mexico led the list with 38% of the world’s production with 2.39 million tons in 2020Mexico is the leading producer and exporter of avocados. Mexican avocados are the number one exporter globally, with an export value of USD 2.92 billion in 2020. Its major exporting country is the US, which dominated an estimated 87% of its export share.
